I'm a Cuban born painter living in South Florida who is primarily self-taught. I find inspiration in the memories of the beautiful landscapes found in my native country as well as the lush tropical scenery found in South Florida. The ability to put my "mark on a canvas" is a gift and a joy. Making my subjects recognizable and appreciated by others is truly inspirational for me. Being able to paint is extremely relaxing and I loose all sense of time. Although I'm my own harshest critic, when a painting is completed to my satisfaction, I'm amazed that I created it!
My style of painting is still a work in progress. I'm still experimenting and trying to learn new things about this craft. I love the impressionistic style with bright colors and thick luscious oil paints. They seem to convey more movement and depth and have a life of their own. While I've only been painting for about four years, I hope to continue learning and honing my skills. I hope to share even more of the beautiful landscapes that are found in South Florida in addition to the Cuban landscapes of my childhood memories. Each of my paintings is thoughtfully designed and lovingly painted in the hopes that my work touches another's heart in a special way. If I accomplish this, I'd be very happy.
All of my art work is dedicated to my mom, Carmen. She was the artist that has influenced me the most!
Thank you for your interest.
cariños,
Maria Soto Robbins
